Slowing enemies with ice before warping in with a fiery explosion is a good combo. Switching between them is easy, and each offers several attacks, from powerful single-target spells to huge area-of-effect blasts. Mages can control several elements, though I was only shown three: fire, ice, and (wait for it) corruption. This was the biggest hurdle I had to overcome when playing, and it felt exceptionally uncomfortable - not the feel of the game, mind you, but the idea that something video games have taught to be true might have alternatives. You are at your most powerful state when combining spells on the frontline. In a way, you're actually punished for playing like a traditional mage. The better you are at staying alive, the better you are at killing everything. Likewise, timing a perfect block releases a wave of damaging energy.

Teleporting is quick and easy, and it can be used to escape, but that would be a waste of the powerful elemental blast that follows the movement. Play You've probably heard the saying, 'The best offense is a good defense.' Well, in Lichdom: Battlemage, the two are often inseparable.
